A downloadable Geometry Nodes Tree

EDIT: This project is now obsolete and outdated and is only here for archival purposes. The Blender 3.5 update includes a bunch of Geometry Nodes assets for hair, including the curly variety and much more. And the Curve to Mesh node is still compatible, though missing some features like UV generation. I may work on a solution for this.

Original description:
Ever wanted to make stylized curly hair, but got disappointed by the lack of resources, and when you do eventually find something it's either hyper-realistic and not fitting for the style you want, or all they do is model a sphere, displace it with a noise texture and call it a day? This Geometry Nodes tree was created to address these issues and more.

CurlingIron is procedural, non-destructive, and has a bunch of bells and whistles for customization. Connect your own custom bevel object, change the scale of the whole thing, randomize the outer positions of each hair, the world is your oyster now.

Best of all, this project is completely Free, Forever! You couldn't pay me if you wanted to, because I disabled donations for this project page!  You can even use this for commercial projects like films or games, but if you make NFT's I will find you, and that's a promise.

Requires Blender 3.1 or later.

Credit is not required when using this node tree, but I would love to see the creations you make with it! @ me or use the tag #CurlingIron3D when posting your works on social media!

Install instructions

If you want to start messing around, simply open the .blend file in Blender 3.1.

If you want to add this to your own project, go to File, Append, CurlingIron.blend/NodeTree/CurlingIron, add a curve object to your scene with a Geometry Nodes modifier, then from the dropdown select CurlingIron. Yeah I know there's a lot of steps here, but that's Blender for ya!

The Asset Browser doesn't directly support Geo Nodes trees, but you could mark a hair object as an asset and make your life slightly easier.

Haven't tried this yet, but it's super cool that a project like this exists! 😀

Woah, can't wait to see more hair stuff from you.
